Language Test Results
Once your test is done, it takes approximately 3 to 6 working days to determine your result. More than one person is involved in this process.
Level 3 or below
We’re sorry but if your language proficiency is rated at level 3 or below, it means that you have not been successful in passing the test and it will not be possible to have a licence entry.
Level 4
Congratulations on passing the language proficiency test!
You'll receive a licence endorsement which will be valid for 4 years.
Level 5
Congratulations! You are already an 'Extended' English speaker!
We will see you again in 6 years time for your revalidation exam.
Level 6
Congratulations & Good-bye!
We won't see you again for a revalidation exam - the level 6 licence endorsement is valid for an unlimited period of time.
How we establish your test result:
STEP 1
You take the language test with an examiner. The examiner (also called the operational expert, or LPE) will assign an initial rating.
STEP 2
A linguistic expert (also called LPLE) will listen to the voice recording of your test and will also assign a rating and a level of proficiency.
Step 3
The LTB performes a final check - in case of differences between LPE and LPLE it also assigns a third rating. Finally, the LTB will send the results to you and the licensing authority.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I AIM FOR A LEVEL 6 AND THEN I DON'T PASS?
You can take the test, aimed at a higher level (e.g. level 5 or 6). Even if your result isn't good enough to receive that level, you might still pass with a lower level.
DO I HAVE TO DECIDE BEFORE TAKING THE TEST WHAT LEVEL I WANT TO ACHIEVE?
No, you don't have to decide. The examiner will ask you about your self-assessment but the test will be the same. It might even be possible that you end up with a higher level than expected!
WHY IS THERE NO PERIOD OF VALIDITY FOR LEVEL 3?
Level 3 or below does not allow you to fly at all - therefore, it has no period of validity. It won't be endorsed on your licence.
I HEARD THAT THE LEVEL 6 IS VALID FOR AN UNLIMITED PERIOD OF TIME. IS THAT CORRECT?
Right now - yes. But EASA has already put a limit on the validity of air traffic controllers' LP level 6. (9 years)
The period of validity for pilots is still unlimited.
